For "Phase Transition Activity #6: Stretching" we molded two spheres of ice inside two 45cm diamater fitness balls. The balls were placed side by side inside the gallery atop two yoga mats. After spectators had gathered in the space, we appeared in black wrestling singlets then cut and peeled away the rubber exteriors of the balls to reveal the ice. For the following three hours, we slowly assumed and held various poses with the spheres of ice. One sphere shattered into pieces after attempting to lift it over the head. The other was thrown into the gutter in front of the gallery, after which, spectators began to throw the shattered pieces and the performers rolled up their yoga mats.
